Home care and support in the community standards have been written to:

  • Show what people should expect from the care they receive.
  • Set out what providers of care services must do to meet the expectations of people who use care services and requirements under the Law.
  • Provide a structure that can be used to inspect the care provided.

The service will be led and managed well.

When you are choosing a service there will be information about the service and how it will support and care for you. It will be shared with you in a way you can understand.

You will be supported and cared for in a way which has been planned with you.

You will be supported to make your own choices and decisions. Your choices, preferences, lifestyle and beliefs will be respected.

You will be supported and cared for by people who will treat you with dignity, respect, and compassion because they have the right values, attitudes, understanding and behaviour.

Your care will be provided with consistency and reliability by competent care and support workers who have the necessary training and qualifications to meet your needs.

You will feel safe and fully involved in decisions about your safety and wellbeing.

Yours and other people’s thoughts, worries and complaints about how you are cared for will be listened to and taken seriously. If there has been a problem with your care that has led to serious harm, you or your family will be contacted, told what action is being taken and given an apology.
